Chambre de Commerce

Our exploration of Chambre de Commerce in Belgium. I don’t know a whole lot about this building other than it was originally built sometime during the 1500′s. It burnt a few times, rebuilt 1872 and has been abandonned since 2003.

We were told that it’s quite tricky to get into as it’s right in the middle of the city! It’s semi-hidden just off the busy main shopping streets and every gate we found was locked and nailed shut.
On the one side there was some scaffolding set up, although right in front of a coffeeshop where some people were drinking coffee on the outside table – could we really climb in right on front of them? Finally we decided that yes we could! So we did, got some waves and laughs, and along the way up we found an open window. Too easy.

Inside we ran into a German couple who were there for the third time. They told us they got in via the basement which we had no idea where it was. We then spent a good 2-3 hours in there without any problem and without running into anyone.
I saw some statistics that only about 5% of explorers here manage the trip unnoticed so I guess we were really lucky! Amazing place…. Please don’t turn it into a shopping centre!
